5 Traditions That Help Us Close Out the Season
It’s bittersweet, but many of us have already enjoyed the last sit or stalk of the season. Whether you filled your tag or not, we hope this is an opportunity to reset and reflect on all of your hard-earned experiences afield this fall. Here are the practical and sentimental ways we’re wrapping things up.
Clean Deep
As you wash apparel, empty packs, and dry out damp boots, make note of the gear that’s stretched out, snagged, pilling, or never fit right in the first place. It’s a great time to shop for those replacements, too — a fresh start begins with gear you’ll want to reach for next season.
Celebrate the Harvest
From chili to venison stew and wild-game tacos, many women mark the close of the season with a hot meal from that freshly stocked freezer. We find this is a great tradition to share with other women who are curious about hunting — food is the gateway drug.
Make Note
Updating our scouting journals in a kind of post-mortem always saves time and stress in the next season. Jot down animal movements, unusual behavior, and pinch points you discovered while they’re still fresh in your mind. Future you will be grateful.
Do a Photo Dump
From stolen moments of beauty in nature to the happy, tired smiles after the packout, sharing your photos with friends and family is what it’s all about. Close the loop on the season and all the memories made.
Spot the Gaps
What do you wish you’d had this season to make your adventures even better? Now is the moment to reflect on what’s missing from your gear collection and add it to your wishlist.
